SCHOOL COUNCIL

The School Council is elected annually, generally in the Autumn term.  Pupils may only vote for members of their own year group.  Each year group is represented by two pupils who will serve for one year only.  Elections are “First Past Post”.  In addition to the ten elected members the Head Boy and Head Girl also serve on the Council.  The School Council's role in the administration of the school is purely advisory and while councillors are at liberty to make recommendations on most aspects of the school policy the tendency has been for them to concentrate on the following issues:

School Funds

School Uniform

Discipline

Entertainment

Extra-Curricular Activities

Cross-Community Links

Support forvarious charities

Possible uses for any funding supplied to them by the Parents’ Association

 

The School Council is strictly forbidden to critically discuss any individual member of staff or any named pupil. From within their membership, the School Council will elect a Chairperson and a Secretary.  At their own discretion these roles may be changed periodically during the year.  The School Council will also elect two members of the teaching staff to assist them in their work.  Formal School Council meetings will take place monthly. Informal or adhoc meetings will take place as the occasion demands.  Following School Council meetings the chairperson and secretary will meet with the principal to discuss their recommendations with a view to implementation.
